There's no better place than the Metroparks to enjoy the outdoors, and no better time than autumn.

Join the Autumn Adventure fall walking program, going on now through November 7. Just pick up your walking record and hit the trails. We've identified some colorful trails for you, but you can also pick up to four of your own. Walk a total of eight to complete the program. Walk on your own or join one of our guided walks.

Wednesday, September 8

Meet Me at Metroparks: Prairie Life, Wildwood Preserve, Metroparks Hall, 2 to 3 p.m. This is the perfect time of year to explore the Prairie at Wildwood and see who calls this habitat home. Visitors of all ages and abilities connect to Metroparks at these monthly events. This program is cosponsored by West Park Place and accessible to anyone who loves nature, history and their local parks. Register Now! Price: $ 2.00.

Wildcard Wednesdays, Oak Openings Preserve, Buehner Center, 7 to 8 p.m. Metroparks have a surprise in store for you every Wednesday. This program is a trail adventure of the naturalist's choice, featuring seasonal highlights of our largest preserve. A new program is prepared weekly for you and your family, so come be amazed at the variety of treasures found within Oak Openings Preserve. This is an Autumn Adventure Program. Register Now! Friends of Pearson, Pearson, Packer-Hammersmith Center, 7 to 9 p.m. What would you like to do at a park? Imagine what you wish you could do and join the Friends of Pearson at their monthly meeting to help direct the future of this unique and popular Metropark. Price: Free.

Advanced Bird Study, Secor Metropark, Secor Room, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Ever hear a bird chirping in the backyard and wonder what it is? Hone your visual and auditory identification skills in this in-depth, advanced bird study. Register Now! Price: $ 3.00.

Friday, September 10

Geocache Adventure for Kids, Wildwood Preserve, Metroparks Hall, 4 to 6 p.m. Take an adventure through Wildwood Preserve searching for hidden geocaches. Metroparks naturalists help you decipher environmental clues, but you will need to use your GPS unit for ultimate success. Program is designed for kids, ages 8 to 13, and includes a course teaching the basics of using a GPS. Participants can use their own GPS or borrow one from Metroparks. Register Now! Price: $ 5.00.

Canal Days, Providence, Historic Area parking lot, 12 to 4 p.m. Celebrate our region's past by spending a day in the 1800s. Craftspeople and games will be on hand for the whole family to enjoy. Our mules will pull you back to the 1870s, aboard an operating canal boat, and the Isaac Ludwig mill will be in full motion grinding grain and sawing logs using nothing but the power of water. Fees apply to ride the canal boat. Price: Free.

Maintenance Work Days, Wildwood Preserve, Visitor Center, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Join the Metroparks Maintenance Crew in the care and preservation of the Metroparks. Projects include: trail work, gardening, painting, stewardship, landscaping and general clean up projects. Work gloves, a reusable drinking bottle and sturdy shoes or boots are recommended. Groups and individuals are welcome. Register Now! Price: Free.

Blue Creek Open House, Blue Creek Conservation Area, White Barn on Schadel Road, 1 to 4 p.m. See one of Metroparks newest properties before it is open for general use and meet our partners, Nature's Nursery and Lucas Soil & Water Conservation District. At 2 p.m., join Metroparks staff for a free Sunday Sampler program. Price: Free.

Sunday Sampler: Fishing at the Quarry Pond, Blue Creek Conservation Area, White Barn on Schadel Road, 2 to 3:30 p.m. Bring your own pole and see what's biting at the Blue Creek Quarry Pond. Naturalists will help you identify your catch and discuss the important waterways in your beautiful Metroparks. Fishing is free for Conservation Area, one of Metroparks newest properties. Register Now! Price: Free.

Vintage Base Ball, Wildwood Preserve, Playground area Wildwood, 2 to 4 p.m. No glove, no problem. Come see how baseball was meant to be played when the Black Swamp Frogs take on their neighbors to the north the Wyandotte Stars in an 1860s "base ball match." Price: Free.

Naturalist's Camera Club of Toledo Free Public Program: Nature Photography Program, Secor Metropark, National Center for Nature Photography Secor Room, 2 to 4 p.m. Monthly programs presented by the Naturalists Camera Club of Toledo are open to everyone and typically include a guest speaker, photography instruction and light refreshments. Price: Free.

Tuesday, September 14

Side Cut Explorer, Side Cut, Riverview Area, 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. All Aboard! Cruise along the banks of the Maumee River and down the canal tow-path in Metroparks open air trolley. A naturalist will highlight the scenery, as you relax in the 12 passenger, wheelchair accessible tram. Every Tuesday, June through October. Groups can schedule separate times for a nominal fee. Register Now! Price: $ 2.00.

Wee Workshop: Butterflies, Oak Openings Preserve, Oak Openings Lodge, 10 to 11:30 a.m. It's time to leave your cocoon and experience the beauty of Metroparks as we focus on butterflies. Wee Workshop is a hands-on nature experience designed to cultivate our child's love for the outdoors. Register child only, 3 to 6 year olds. Register Now! Price: $ 5.00.
