Historic Images of Egypt, Middle East
Go On Display

A set of 103 watercolors by Charles Hamilton Smith (1776–1859), and photography by 19th–century artists Francis Frith, Felix Bonfils and Antonio Beato are featured in Travelers Through Ancient Lands , opening Sept. 10 in the Works on Paper Galleries. The images are among the first to document locations in the Middle East from a European perspective. Thanks in part to these fascinating images, Egypt has captivated the world ever since. Half of the Smith watercolors will be exhibited when the show opens; the second half go on display in November. Come twice to see the entire exhibition.

The Art of Seduction

The final 2445 Series event of the year, The Art of Seduction, takes place from 7–10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 at the Glass Pavilion®. Watch local notables paint a still life and live mannequins sport designs by Amy Rossi. See traditional Indian belly dancing plus glassblowing demonstrations. Savor sumptuous snacks, including a chocolate tasting. And in a feast for the ears, a double treat: the sultry sounds of Tom Turner and the Slow Burn featuring Kelsey Sczesney, and progressive tunes spun by NYC DJ Ben Cohen. Tickets ($20 members/$25 nonmembers) include signature potions by event sponsor Heidelberg Distributing. The 2445 Series is co-sponsored by the Toledo City Paper.
