Toledo Harbor Lighthouse - 100 Years of History
Toledo Harbor stands proudly 12 miles from the shores of Maumee Bay in roughly 21 feet of water. With construction completed in 1904, Toledo Harbor was considered the most modern lighthouse of its time.
In the mid 1980’s, the Coast Guard placed a mannequin in the lighthouse dressed in uniform to resemble a light keeper in order to prevent trespassing. To this day, tales have been spread that the figure in the window is a ghost, adding to the mystique and allure of the Toledo Harbor.
The best place to view the lighthouse from land is at Maumee Bay State Park. The Sandpiper Canal Boat hosts several scheduled trips out to the lighthouse each summer, and there are numerous boats available for a charter trip.
