  • Hear the sounds of fifes and drums echo across the river and the smell of gunpowder from the artillery as you step back to the War of 1812 at Fort Meigs State Memorial.  Built by William Henry Harrison in 1813, it is the largest reconstructed, wooden walled fortification in America and withstood two major attacks by the British. The fort was rebuilt in 2003 and a new Visitor Center and Museum were added. The Visitor Center houses a 3,000 square foot museum, Ohio History Museum Store, and educational classrooms.
  • Enjoy a guided tour of the Historic Old West End, one of the largest collections of late Victorian (1810 – 1910) homes left standing in the United States. While there, a must see is The Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral. It is the only Plateresque (architectural style of 16th century Spain) cathedral in the world. Layers of paintings and frescoes of saints and angels reach to the ceiling with a magnificent stained glass Rose Window and Mosaic altars.
