Moms everywhere are planning their family vacations for the year.  Destination Toledo is here to help mom out by providing a slew of great ideas for a family getaway to Northwest Ohio!

Mix and match, pick and choose.  Do one day or all four, or choose two days and do another two later…the choice is yours.

Day 1

10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Take the kids on an adventure back in time at The Canal Experience  in Grand Rapids, OH.  Enjoy a scenic ride aboard The Volunteer, a 60-foot mule-drawn (that’s right, real mules!) canal boat. Characters from a bygone era in period attire greet your family as you visit a working saw and gristmill, the General Store, scenic Providence Dam and lock #44, one of the last functioning 19th century limestone locks.

12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.
Keep up the old-fashioned theme with a lunch stop at Koral Hamburg & Diner  in Waterville.  This 50s style diner has THE best burgers, fries and milkshakes sure to please even the pickiest of appetites.

1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.
Our next stop is The Butterfly House , where children will behold hundreds of butterflies from North America, Central America and Asia.  Get up close and personal with several species of butterflies in a wonderful garden setting, where you can relax and enjoy the background sounds of a waterfall and nature.

2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Hit the links, putt-putt style that is, at Par 2 Golf  on Heatherdowns.  Take your pick of three fun filled 18-hole putting courses.  Test your skill at a classic game in the large arcade room and cool down with a yummy ice cream cone.

4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Dive headfirst into an afternoon of fun at Holiday Inn’s Splash Bay , Toledo’s only indoor water park.  Rocket down a series of waterslides or relax on a lazy river.  Younger children will love the Fort Meigs Tree House and kiddy pool.  When your day in the park is finished, retreat to your family friendly suite.  Make dinner in your full kitchen, order in pizza, or enjoy dinner at the in house restaurant, Saba’s Bistro 1705 .

Day 2

10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Start your journey at the Toledo Zoo , one of the nation’s top-ranked zoos and the number one attraction in Toledo!  Immerse yourself in the heart of Africa on the Safari Railway through a 5-acre African habitat teeming with giraffes, zebra and all the wilds of Africa.  Grab lunch at the Carnivore Café before enjoying your whirlwind trip through the Arctic Encounter, Hippoquarium, Nature’s Neighborhood, Museum of Science and Aquarium…your journey is endless!

2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
Take a break and relax with a view of the beautiful downtown Toledo skyline at one of several restaurants located at the Docks .  Enjoy the picturesque riverfront on the outdoor patio of Real Seafood or Zia’s for an afternoon nibble and a cold drink.

3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Check in at the Crowne Plaza  and enjoy Toledo’s only hotel situated on the Maumee River.  The hotel has been beautifully renovated and offers spectacular views of the Maumee River.  Relax and lounge by the pool or enjoy the new full-service Aqua Bar specializing in martinis.

5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
No visit to Toledo would be complete without a stop at Tony Packo’s , made famous by actor and native Toledoan, Jamie Farr.  Chow down on a famous sausage hot dog smothered in homemade chili sauce with “the works” at the original location on Front Street, or hit their newest location downtown near Fifth Third Field.  The kids will find plenty of choices including homemade macaroni and cheese and traditional hot dogs.

7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.
Batter up!  Family fun is waiting for you as the Toledo Mud Hens  play ball at Fifth Third Field!  Grab some popcorn, cotton candy and a cold drink and settle in to this unique ballpark situated in the historic downtown landscape of the Warehouse District.  

Day 3

9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
Awake refreshed and ready to start your day after a good night’s sleep on Crowne Plaza’s new pillow top mattresses.  Enjoy a relaxing breakfast with spectacular views of the Maumee River at the hotel’s Café del Sol Restaurant .

10:00 p.m.-12:00 p.m.
Ever felt the whipping winds of a hurricane? Step inside the hurricane chamber at the brand new Imagination Station  and your answer can be ‘Yes’.  This brand new attraction promises to engage visitors of every age in a multi-sensory experience that’s as fun as it is educational.  Defy gravity as you ride the High Wire Cycle, or bounce on the BOYO, our human YoYo.  The fun is non-stop!

12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.
It’s lunchtime…and our pick is sure to be a crowd pleaser.  Located in the heart of downtown Toledo, Pizza Papalis  serves up some of the best pizza in the Midwest.  Their specialty is their Chicago deep-dish, but don’t overlook their thin crust pizza which is equally as tasty.  Not in the mood for pizza?  Pizza Papalis also offers a variety of great sandwiches, salads, soups and Italian specialties.

1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
Get ready for some fun in the sun!  Head out to the 1,850-acre Maumee Bay State Park  and play on the beach on the shores of Lake Erie.  Rent a jet ski, kayak or a banana boat and venture out on the water.  Take a nature walk on the marshland boardwalk teeming with wildlife, or bike along one of the winding trails with stunning views.  And dad will love the 18-hole Scottish Links golf course!

5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.
After an afternoon of sun and fun, it’s time to check in at the Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center .  Whether you opt for one of the fully-furnished cozy cottages, or select a loft-style room at the lodge, your stay is sure to be a delight.
6:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.
No need to leave the park for dinner!  Water's Edge Restaurant  encompasses a breathtaking glass wrap-around view of Lake Erie with a variety of choices to suit every appetite.  After dinner, hang out at either the outdoor or indoor pool, or soak in the warmth of the relaxing whirlpool or sauna.  

Day 4

9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Who says you can’t feed the animals?  You’re next stop at the African Wildlife Safari  allows you to not only feed the animals, but get up close and personal with over 400 exotic species.  Explore this 100-acre preserve from the comfort of your own vehicle as you encounter some of the world’s most beautiful and remarkable animals.

11:00 a.m.-???
This is what the kids have been waiting for…Cedar Point!   The park boasts an unheard of 17, yes, 17 roller coasters (more than any other park in the world)! With a lineup that includes three of the top 10 steel roller coasters in the world, including the Millennium, Top Thrill Dragster, Wicked Twister and The Maverick, Cedar Point is a coaster lover's dream come true!  Cedar Point doesn’t forget about its youngest visitors…it is a child's ultimate playground! The park features four areas just for kids including Camp Snoopy, the Gemini Children's Area, Planet Snoopy and Kiddy Kingdom.
