34th Annual NW Ohio Rib-Off

The Blade’s 34th annual Northwest Ohio Rib Off presented by Taylor Automotive Family and Buckeye Broadband will take place this summer from August 17-20 at the Lucas County Fairgrounds in Maumee, Ohio.  Performers at this year’s Rib Off will be Dennis DeYoung, Lee Brice, and Grand Funk Railroad.

As always, plenty of barbecue will be available from pitmasters in Toledo and from as far away as Texas. The event is part of the National Barbecue Cookers Association. All NBCA members are certified Food Safety Professionals.

On Thursday, August 17, the music kicks off with DeYoung, a founding member of the rock band Styx and the lead singer and writer on seven of the band’s eight top-10 hits. His concert with a six-piece band showcases Styx hits “Lady,” “Babe,” “Come Sail Away,” Too Much Time on My Hands,” “Best of Times,” and “Mr. Roboto,” plus the band’s other classic rock anthems.

On Friday, August 18, country singer Lee Brice takes the stage. Brice’s 2014 album, “I Don't Dance,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. At the 2015 Academy of Country Music Awards, he won Single Record of the Year as both artist and producer of the album, while the song, “Drinking Class” went to No. 1 and was certified gold.

On Saturday, August 19, Grand Funk Railroad is set to perform. Originating from Flint, Michigan, in 1969, this top-selling rock group of the ’70s produced the mega hits “We’re An American Band,” “I’m Your Captain/Closer To Home,” “The Loco-Motion,” and “Some Kind of Wonderful.”
